Hi.

Easy Knit Christmas Stocking / Sparkle on the Tree

These knit Christmas stockings make great decor for your home or a fun and affordable gift! The yarn is chunky, so it knits up very quickly. Each stocking took me a few hours from start to finish and I think it would be quick for an advanced beginner, too. The pattern requires knitting in the round, changing colors, short rows in the heel section, and a simple crochet chain for the hanging loop.

For yarn, I chose Plymouth Encore Mega because it is available at my local yarn shop in a variety of different colors and is a really great price point. You may not want to spend a ton on the yarn for this project when it will only be used as décor for a few days a year. The yarn is 75% Acrylic and 25% Wool. I’m not a huge fan of acrylic yarn, but I like it for household goods because it holds up well over time. The colorways shown here are Red No. 1386 and White No. 0146 for the stocking on the left as well as Light Gray No. 6007 and Green No. 0204 for the stocking on the right. Keep in mind that exact yarn colors may vary slightly with each dye lot.

The pattern is available for free on the Purl Soho blog. They used super fun, non-traditional colors for their stockings, but I opted for more traditional color combinations so the stockings will match my holiday décor. I followed the pattern exactly as written. The finished stocking are a good size - mine are approximately 14 inches long.

I have to warn you: you are going to want to make more than one of these!

Happy knitting!
